Design House

Jeanette Maynes had been a marketing manager for a hospitality club and was faced with unrealistic prices, poor design and advice, long waits for printing and advertising that wasn't working for the business. Being a graphic designer, she re-designed the Club's artwork herself, achieving a significant reduction in costs in the first year by sourcing new printers.

Jeanette knew that there was a need for this service and saw it as a niche market in which to specialize. With the assistance of NEIS and Mission Australia Toowoomba, Jeanette started her own business which has gone from strength to strength since commencing in December 2004.

"During the research for and preparation of my Business Plan, my trainers shared their extensive knowledge which enabled me to clearly identify the vision and goals for my future business," said Jeanette. "Initial business targets were local small businesses in all categories."

"Within my first successful year, as a result of positive feedback, word of mouth advertising from satisfied clients plus the mentoring, I now design artwork for clients statewide and nationally!"

Jeanette's business has grown markedly, exceeding predictions at every step of the way. Her determination to meet then exceed the expectations of her clients has resulted in referrals as her reputation for innovation, quality and service has spread. Jeanette has also diversified into related areas such as web design.

While the clientele and turnover of her business has grown, Jeanette has remained a home based business, however a future goal is to employ other designers. If the business continues at the current rate of growth, there is no doubt that this will happen.

See a niche market? See a NEIS provider...just like Jeanette did!
