Bao Ping (Angela) Zhang and her husband had been looking for employment but finding it difficult, despite many years of experience in the international trade business. They had been dreaming of starting their own business, but weren’t confident to do so – until receiving information about NEIS from their local Centrelink.
After completing the NEIS training with Chisholm Institute, they took a positive attitude and commenced trading as BL International Sourced Products Pty Ltd in May 2006, having learned how to set up the business and target the market they were entering. “NEIS provided us with a level of financial assistance and helped us to prepare a detailed business plan and set a very clear path of which we had to take in order to survive,” said Angela.
Using their experience in international trade, the business imports good from Asia to distribute to wholesalers and retailers in Australia. They chose to concentrate on packaging materials, after learning from a friend that there was a gap in the market for these products.
In their first year of operation, the business has generated sales of over a quarter of a million dollars and has developed an excellent record of financial management and customer service. It’s a business that is sure to keep growing and proves that industry knowledge, with the business training from NEIS can make a very successful business.
