Best New Business - Verve Portraits
Holly McErvale returned from a period overseas and noticed that the Australian portrait industry needed a new fresh approach as it was very tired and dated. She had a vision of creating contemporary portraits for the new generation and wanted to transform the industry forever but had no idea where to start to achieve this goal... until she discovered the NEIS program.
Holly was enrolled at the RMIT NEIS program in later 2006 and found her instructor, Tony Phillips, to be a source of inspiration who gave confidence to everyone, challenging and motivating them and believing in their projects.
“Although I had a very clear vision of what I wanted to achieve, I had no understanding of business principles, cash flows, forecasts and the importance of pre-planning my venture,” said Holly. “The NEIS course provided me with all the information in these areas to ensure the viability of my business in the future.”
It was the influence of the NEIS training and mentoring that Holly feels allowed her to rise to the challenge of business - and rise her business has.
In 18 months, Holly has expanded from herself as a sole operator to having two studios in Melbourne with over 30 employees including creative photographers, designers and graphic artists “who create iconic pieces of art that fill your living space with your own unique energy” says Holly.
“We create an unforgettable experience culminating in spontaneous vibrant and emotional images that will change your concept of portrait photography forever,” she adds.
And judging by the success of her business, Holly has converted many to the Verve philosophy- a business established through the sound business planning philosophy of NEIS.
