2007 AAMI NEIS Change Award - Speed Thinking
Tina Owens has seen some tough times in her life. In 1994 she became a single mother, in 1999 her family lost their home to fire and in 2003 they lost a loved one.
“Life happens,” stated Tina. “From these things I learned resilience, resourcefulness, strength and courage
“From NEIS I learned how to use them.”
With a background in education and training, where she specialized in coaching and mentoring first year teachers, Tina sought to utilize her knowledge, experience and skills to establish Speed Thinking a business providing personal impact training (personal impact is the ability to hit the mark, think fast on your feet and impress to achieve), mentoring and coaching for personal and professional performance excellence.
“To me, NEIS was like pouring water on a desert,” said Tina. “From the RMIT team I learnt never to give up.”
“I learnt how to operate at optimum and achieve best practice; see the positive and build on strengths; how to harness my passion for performance in response to business imperatives and market demand.”
Since starting her business in January 2004, Tina has assisted many to do the same. She has worked with CEO's with a dread of addressing boardrooms and giving Christmas speeches, key note speakers for international symposiums and parliamentarians preparing and delivering major speeches inspiring action. Testimonials from clients prove that she is gifted in her chosen field, she is described by one client as a “dream-catcher”.
Although her business has not had a high turnover, it has persevered throughout a number of personal challenges and is enduring. Tina remains committed to building her business, while balancing personal and family needs. She has also become a mentor in the RMIT NEIS program, a role she cherishes and sees as a high point of her journey thus far. The future is looking bright for Speed Thinking.
